Life expectancy

[edit]

This (Average elephant life expectancy is 60 years in the wild and 80 in captivity, although this has been exaggerated in the past.) particular sentence cites a study from 1982. I'm unsure that this could still be considered accurate data. 162.106.4.146 (talk) 18:31, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know of any more recent studies in reliable sources that would change this? We do prefer more recent published studies if they have been accepted by appropriate peers. However, older sources are perfectly fine if they are still generally accepted in the field of study. Donald Albury 19:11, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There are four subspecies of Asian elephants as of June 2024. This should be changed from three subspecies.

Not done for now: For mammal species we tend to wait for both IUCN and ASM's MDD to have the taxa. When one doesn't, and for subspecies, we want at least one of them to list and multiple third party sources to also report the taxon. Right now we have IUCN and AMNH. We need to wait for one or two others.
