User infobox

[edit]

If you are a wikipedian Millonario you can put this in your user page : {{Template:User River Plate}} petnjik

will look like this:

This user supports
River Plate

--Jor70 23:26, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nice one. I shall be changing the one (*) on my user page to that now!!

(*) It is much better than this one:

This user supports
Club Atlético River Plate.

♦Tangerines BFC ♦·Talk 23:39, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just wondering if the userbox could be linked to a "Wikipedians who support River Plate" category? I presume there is no such category as yet and one would need to be created if so? Just a thought♦Tangerines BFC ♦·Talk 23:45, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
supposly it does to Category:Wikipedian Club Atlético River Plate fans but i think is not working fine Jor70 01:01, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think I fixed --Jor70 01:08, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes you seem to have fixed it as the user names are on the category now!♦Tangerines BFC ♦·Talk 01:41, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I may be wrong, but I believe you can't put fair use images (such as the club logo) in userboxes. WATP  14:55, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ops, I didnt know that!, but why flags should do ? Jor70 15:27, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Flags are ineligible for copyright, so don't come under fair use.WATP  15:46, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, where we should check for this ? Jor70 15:55, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not an expert by any stretch, but this seems to cover it. WATP  15:59, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've seen a number of userboxes with similar images in them, including football club logos/crests. They seem to have been retained without anyone requesting their removal.♦Tangerines BFC ♦·Talk 18:30, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
there are copyright fanatics that think the use of such logos is only excused in the club's articles ONLY. I had to create my own image for {{User Boca Juniors}}... --Mariano(t/c) 20:24, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I just do the same :-) Jor70 21:22, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Francescoli

[edit]

Francescoli arrived in River during 1983... Please note. elpincha 14:35, 23 Nov 2004 (UTC)

yes I know but his most sucessful campaings where the "maquinita" from 1996, 1997, 1998 (the tri championship, supercopa and libertadores). I'm in doubt about where to place him. Ortega played around 1995 so if would fit in both early 1990s and late 1990s. Maybe we should list them by decade. For the time being, I'll also add Alzamendi. SpiceMan 22:16, 23 Nov 2004 (UTC)
The intention was to do a rough sort by date of appeareance... but hey nobody says I'm right and you're wrong. It just seems more informative this way. You can just add articles for each of the great teams... If you have the resources. Best, elpincha 22:35, 23 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Actually, Enzo's best year might have been 1985 with Enrique, Morresi, Amuchastegui... I just added some info on Veira to the San Lorenzo de Almagro article, and it came back to me. Beautiful team... - elpincha 21:18, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)

The River Plate

[edit]

River Plate is actually the name the English gave to the Río de la Plata.

The reasoning for the English name of the club in the article's introduction is unsourced, and seems speculative. Is there a definitive explanation for the name? phreakydancin (talk) 17:29, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just added a reference link, hopefully this answers your question. --Bocafan76 (talk) 17:40, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Somebody really screwed up that name!!! "Rio de la Plata" means "Silver River" not "Plate River." The masculine noun "el plato" means "plate;" the feminine noun "la plata" means "silver." 2600:1015:B007:50F9:A0E1:2486:2ABD:9B66 (talk) 17:16, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think River is using the "All-black" away version. Here there's a picture of yesterday match. For the Local one, use "Kit body sashonwhite.png" for the stripe as yours seams to be off-place. --Marianocecowski 11:39, 18 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Football ( Soccer )

[edit]

Please be aware that in the USA football is that sport which is played with the hands. To them, the sport played with the feet is called soccer. Please don't remove the disambiguation, we don't want any confusion over this. GusCaicedo | 2006-03-03 17:42

Possible? Argentinian championship make possible it?

Stadium location

[edit]

It is a common misconception that the stadium is located in the Núñez barrio; it is actually in Belgrano.

I was going to ask the same question, as the Belgrano, Buenos Aires page says the ground is located there. If someone else can confirm the point, can the entries be changed? Eldumpo (talk) 20:38, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

There are some external links that do not follow Wikipedia standards. Some push merchandise, and at least one of them is a personal or group blog. These should be removed. They have been temporarily moved here pending review. Alexf(t/c) 12:14, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Some of them are in Spanish and I wonder if they belong here or they better belong in the Spanish cross-wiki.

I think neither is actually important. --Mariano(t/c) 15:55, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistent Pictures?

[edit]

There are two pocs in this page showing Pedernera, one of 1941 and the other one from 1969. This is almost 30 years difference and Pedernera looks the same in both pics. I think there must be an error in the dates of these photographs.

No. The second photo is from El Gráfico magazine from 1969, but it is actually from the same period (1940s probably). (please remember to sign your comments with four tildes: ~~~~). -- Alexf42 15:58, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation

[edit]

Out of curiosity, what is the local Spanish pronunciation of "River Plate"? 24.11.127.26 (talk) 18:03, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In Argentina "River Plate" is pronounce the same as in English, so in other words there is no difference, on how it's pronounce.--Bocafan76 (talk) 20:51, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Use of template for current squad

[edit]

I see now that in the current squad section the Template:River Plate squad has been replaced with the traditional non-template squad. Issues regarding the use of these type of templates have already been discussed in the Wikiproject Football (see internal link or external link) and NO objection was raised. If there is any new objection to their inclusion now they should be presented in that forum before unilaterally deciding that there is no consensus to their use. Regards. Fache (talk) 01:22, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"respective"?

[edit]

From the introduction:

"Matches between them are known as Superclásico and is amongst the most heated rivalries in the sport due to their respective local and global popularity."

Because of the word "respective", what this sentence actually says right now is that River Plate is popular locally, while Boca Juniors is popular globally. Is the writer's intent really to say that Boca Juniors is much more popular internationally than River Plate is? Or would it better to remove the word "respective", and say that both clubs are popular both locally and globally? Binabik80 (talk) 16:42, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

To be fair, Boca fans claim that their team is more popular globally for all the international cups they won in the 2000s. However, the Superclásico is an important rivalry for both clubs' national and international prestige, not just one of them. Therefore, I agree to take out "respective". PRIMERA B

[edit]

{{adminhelp}} Whoever keeps changing them to list in Primera B please stop....they haven't been relegated...yet. EricPZ (talk) 00:36, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to leave the IP a message on xyr talk page. I'm not sure what you want an administrator to do, really. It's just one IP that keeps changing the information, so it doesn't warrant page protection. I'll leave a warning, but I think that's about as much as needs to be done at this stage. GorillaWarfare (talk) 00:56, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Not too familiar with what to do in these situations. After I'd fixed it the second time, I figured it best to bring in reinforcements. ;) EricPZ (talk) 01:03, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You can use the templates at WP:WARN to warn the IP on xyr talk page. GorillaWarfare (talk) 01:06, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nicknames

[edit]

Someone keeps posting RiBer Plate, and it is then removed, but the truth is that it is now a common nickname for the team. More importantly, although "Gallinas" is listed in the body of the article, it is not listed in the infobox. Given that the majority of fans in Argentina are not River Plate fans, River is more commonly referred to as the "Gallinas" than they are as los Millonarios or la Banda Roja. Is it wikipedia convention only to use the positive nicknames in the infobox? Dawindler (talk) 06:02, 29 June 2011 (UTC) RiBer is a despective nickname becouse the relegation. Also is Gallinas ( is for the Supportes not for the team ) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.103.196.5 (talk) 00:02, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Titles

[edit]

River has five official international titles. Link: The official website of River Plate http://www.cariverplate.com/el-club (in spanish)

Outdated, see this page, it's correct to say that the club won six Conmebol-FIFA international titles per sources, while the first team won five (as reflected in the article which is clear in describing the latest cup as under-20). This 2011 reference also describes the U-20 Libertadores as an international official title. And please, don't remove sourced info as you did in your last edits.--Darius (talk) 03:20, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dropping to Primera B in 2011

[edit]

This seems to be an incredibly notable event yet it is not discussed anywhere in the article. In the spanish wikipedia they have an entire article devoted to this. Should we not have at least a small paragraph mentioning this and how big of a deal it was? Here's the article in spanish: [1] Hamsterlopithecus (talk) 00:00, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Category name unification

[edit]

Article name is Club Atlético River Plate. But Some category names are including River Plate, Some category names are including Club Atlético River Plate.

Are there any reasons? If there aren't any reasons, How about unifying article name and category name and How about a unification of category names? Footwiks (talk)

Likewise with the Boca Juniors categories, these need unifying I believe. Club Atlético River Plate the suitable one? R96Skinner (talk) 15:20, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
